Jumping into the semester

Today I had my first day of Tuesday Thursday classes of the semester and boy did we take in a lot of information. Between 311 Fine Arts Integration and 307 Social Studies, I was overwhelmed with all of the information. This is not unusual for education classes, however I am extra overwhelmed because I have to interview for the teacher ed program in two weeks, I have to take the general curriculum test in two weeks and lacrosse season starts tomorrow. With all of tasks I have to complete I have no other option besides to stay organized, use my time wisely and get my work done ahead of time. Dr. Parker has been very helpful already. He gave us the  information we need in order to get ahead with the projects that we have due later in the semester.
Today I learned what google cardboard was. I will now be able to use it in my virtual museum that I have to complete soon. We are in the 21st century so technology and all the resources we can use online have greatly increased and we need to be able to utilize them as much as we can. Technology is something we can integrate into the NC standards. Instead of teaching just about technology, we can use technology to to teach our other core subjects and make learning fun.
I am excited to get started with Social Studies methods because I am ready to learn and obtain information. I want to be the best teacher I can be and be a good leader and example to my future students. In order to do this, I need to know the content I teach including Social Studies and the current events that are happening around us. I can use the information and the projects we do in this class to help me be successful in my future classroom. I can use the virtual museum we have to do in my future classroom, I can use the information I find about current events, and can use the experience we are going to have at Washington in my classroom as well. I am excited to see how much I grow this semester and am ready to get started!

  1. Lindsey, I too was very overwhelmed with the workload for 311 and 307 we were given today but I know that if we all stick together we will make it through! I am very excited about Social Studies because it sets a good foundation for our students as future citizens in their communities. I cannot wait to grow this semester with you and our other classmates.

  2. Lindsey,

I am glad you have had a good (but busy) start to the semester. It sounds like things are going to get real for you really quickly. Make sure you stay organized and ahead!

  3. Lindsey, I definitely feel overwhelmed with information, too. However, I'm also excited about all that we are going to learn this semester! I feel like every other week I'm learning about some new technological site or device that teachers/professors are using to better instruct their students and help them become more well-rounded individuals. This is something that I find hard to keep up with, even though we're millennials and should adapt well to new technology resources. Despite all of that, I know that we are going to have a great semester and move forward to student teaching and become great teachers! Good luck with everything going on within the next couple of weeks, and try not to stress too hard!

  4. Lindsey, I am so glad we are in these courses together. I know it is going to be a lot of work and I am right there with you, it is very overwhelming to take in all the information. We will get through this together though and I love how you said in your blog that we have to be willing to put in the work in order to be the best teachers that we can be for our future students. I am really excited about this class because I have heard you feel so prepared for student teaching and more comfortable as a future teacher in general after this course! Relax and take a deep breath, we will work hard and get through this together!

  5. Lindsey, you really do have a lot on your plate. I am in the same boat as you though. We will get through it together. Though, this is a great opportunity to get organized and learn some good time management. It will help us in the long run when we start teaching because we are always going to be overwhelmed with our students, parents, principles, and work from our schools. And it is a good thing that we will still be able to use what we make and create in class in our future classes. We will get through this together. No need to stress and I never heard of google cardboard either. Learn something new everyday.
