This week we have been talking about and getting prepared to go into the school districts and talking about what student teaching looks like. When Dr. Clark was telling us about her student teaching schedule, not going to lie I was a little overwhelmed trying to take in all of this information. When she told us her work days were from 6-5 then had to grade papers and plan lessons for the rest of the night, reality set in really fast. As I was sitting in class trying to take it in I was starting to stress out.
After class I started to process the information we had just been told and realized that this is what my teaching career will look like in the future. I am going to have to keep track of about 25 students, grade all their work, attend to each of their needs, and give them each the individual teaching they need. Although it is a lot of work and very overwhelming since we do have other classes and work to get done, it is just preparing us for the future.
I am very interested in and excited to go to the schools for the next three weeks to observe different classes. I am excited to see how different teachers teach and their styles of teaching. Hopefully after observing different teachers, I can get a better idea of the ways I want to teach and run my classroom. I can pull different ideas from each teacher that I like and use them for when I am a teacher. I think this will be very beneficial and look forward to the next couple weeks of class!
Lindsey,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with your post! Reality really smacked me in the face on Monday in class, I was ready to just quit. I too realized that this will be our lives daily once we graduate so even though it is super stressful now, the practice is good. It will only make us better teachers in the end because if they journey was easy we wouldn't be challenging ourselves. I am super excited as well to go out into the schools the next few weeks and get an even better glimpse of what our lives will be like in the near future! Good post!

Lindsey,
ReplyDeleteYes, reality can be a big wake-up call from time-to-time! Based on the discussions in the class, what are things you are going to start working towards now so you can be better prepared for your future? Starting to prepare now is the best way to ensure success in student teaching!
I can't wait to go into teaching, but when I heard what the day of a teacher actually looks like my mind was blown. I guess that's just part of being a teacher it might get a little stressful, but it will all be worth it.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your first paragraph. That more than anything kinda smacked me in the face. How many students we have to keep up with, the late work days, grading homework, putting together lesson plans, juggling your own private life, and all the while operating on about 5 hours of sleep. Although 5 hours of sleep a night would be an upgrade from my current sleep schedule. But I'm really looking forward to when we finally get to go to the high school, since that's the grades I'll be teaching.
